What can trigger incontinence?

What can trigger incontinence?

The causes of incontinence vary, and can include infections, medical conditions, or because of surgery. The condition is often temporary, such as during pregnancy. In some cases, incontinence is treatable, and the condition is always manageable.

Aside from the causes listed above, other reasons you might experience incontinence include:

  • Increased pressure on the belly, from being overweight
  • Regular straining from constipation, damaging the pelvic floor
  • Chronic coughing – caused by smoking – weakening muscles
  • Certain medications, including some antidepressants, diuretics and sedatives

The cause often varies by age and gender. Women are more likely to experience incontinence, often due to damage to the pelvic floor. In men, the condition is usually related to the prostate, including an enlarged prostate or surgery.

Whatever the reason you’re experiencing incontinence, it can always be managed with the right product.
